INDUSTRIAL WATER POLLUTION By Drew and Joseph
2
What is Industrial Water Pollution? Industrial water pollution is any contamination of water directly relating to an industry The most common way for industries to pollute water is by directly discharging substances into water bodies Other methods of industrial water pollution: Oil drilling/ transport, runoff from factories, dissolving of harmful gases into water, harmful chemicals slowly seeping into water, etc.
3
Some other sources of industrial water pollution Industrial Water Pollution In the City
4
What Problems Does it Cause? Water is unusable (drinking, agriculture, food production, recreation) Food chain destruction/contamination Population of aquatic animals shrinks rapidly
5
Who is Affected? Aquatic and land animals Farmers Consumers Plants
6
What Will Happen if it Continues? Fish will become endangered and hard to find There will be more unhealthy water ecosystems Water will be more scarcely used for households and consumers Recreational water bodies will be limited in number
7
Current Solutions Use more efficient and environmentally friendly agricultural practices Enforcing laws preventing the discharge of chemicals (Europe) Water sources protected by CWA (Clean Water Act) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clean_Water_Act http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clean_Water_Act
8
Is This Enough? Install more ecological factory equipment
