WELCOME

OUR VISION: A WORLD WHERE POVERTY DOES NOT EXIST

OUR MISSION: YOUNG PEOPLE LEADING A MOVEMENT TO END POVERTY

OUR VALUES: WE’RE HUMBLE WE BUILD OUR COMMUNITY WITH PASSION AND ENERGY WE EMBRACE CHANGE WE THINK BIG. AND WE’RE UNAFRAID WE’RE RELENTLESS WE’RE HUNGRY TO LEARN WE PUT THE IMPACT OF OUR MOVEMENT FIRST

THE STORY SO FAR: We were founded in 2003 by Hugh Evans and Nic Mackay. Now, 10 years later, we have over 130 000 members and about 200 volunteers in branches all around Australia – VIC (also where the national team is based), NSW, QLD, WA, SA, TAS and the ACT.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS : The 2006 MakePovertyHistory Concert, featuring international artists such as Bono and Pearl Jam

The Zero Seven Roadtrip in 2007. The End Child Slavery Campaign in 2008. The Make Poverty History Roadtrip 2010 – which mobilised hundreds of young people and reached millions of Australians with our message that extreme poverty can be ended in our lifetime.

Since 2010 Live Below the Line has raised over $4 million for development projects overseas, providing education to over 120 000 young people in 6 countries. In 2013 alone we raised $2 million! AND THE JOURNEY HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN…

OUR THEORY OF CHANGE: How we create impact in the fight to end poverty WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO END EXTREME POVERTY? WHAT CAN OAKTREE UNIQUELY CONTRIBUTE ? A MOVEMENT!

BREAKING IT DOWN OAKTREE WORKS IN 3 WAYS: DIRECT IMPACT SOCIAL IMPACT POLIITICAL IMPACT

DIRECT IMPACT We fundraise to work with local organisations that directly tackle poverty overseas. Education is the most powerful tool to help break the poverty cycle for our peers across the Asia-Pacific. So that one day soon, they’ll lift their communities out of extreme poverty too.

SOCIAL IMPACT We raise awareness about extreme poverty in Australia because movements need widespread public support. Compelling experiences and storytelling helps us educate and inspire.

POLITICAL IMPACT We influence policy change by ensuring Australia’s leaders take action to end poverty. Just like us, our decision makers are human. We aim to connect them with the diversity of our movement to influence policy change.

OAKTREE IN 2015

OUR WORK IN AUSTRALIA AND OVERSEAS : One of Australia’s fastest growing fundraising campaigns. Thousands of Australians take the challenge to live on $2 a day for 5 days – gaining insight into the lives of those living in extreme poverty, raising money for the projects we support across the region and starting conversations about the issue Watch: 2013 LBL video2013 LBL video Live Below the Line

Our Advocacy We were behind the Make Poverty History concert in 2006, the Zero Seven Roadtrip in 2007, the End Child Slavery campaign in 2008 and the Make Poverty History Roadtrip in 2010.
