2  Ecuador gets its name from the equator, which runs through the country.  The Andes Mountains in Ecuador are so high that they are covered in snow even on the equator.  East of the Andes are tropical rain forests.  The Galapagos Islands, 600 miles from shore, are part of Ecuador.  It’s always hot and humid in the low regions and cool in the mountains.
