To solve my proportion I cross-multiplied 100 times “n” and 12 times 4 which equals 100n = 48. To isolate the variable I divided both sides by the coefficient which is 100. Therefore, the tax = $4.80. To complete the problem I need to add the price of the DVD $12 to the tax $4.80 which equals $16.80. The total cost of the DVD is $16.80.
