Skills Pledge EMAS will support all its employees to develop their ‘functional’ skills –Numeracy –Literacy, –Relevant, valuable qualifications to at least Level 2, –includes levels 3, 4 and management and leadership. Ensure that all staff are skilled, competent and able to make a full contribution to the success of the organisation. Paul Philips signed the Skills Pledge in April 2008.

Main targets for ‘skills development’ are: 95% of EMAS workforce to have basic skills in functional literacy and numeracy 90% of EMAS workforce to have gained a level 2 qualification Shift the balance of intermediate skills from level 2 to level 3 Increase the number of Apprenticeships offered by EMAS Work towards 40% of the EMAS Workforce to have achieved a higher education qualification at level 4 and above.

4. Expansion of the number of apprentices available across the Trust in both the operational and support functions of the service. Roll out the apprentice scheme across the organisation Where possible to recruit all new staff as apprentices. EMAS and
