Achieving good health begins with making responsible decisions Freedom comes with responsibility

3 Decision Making Decision-making skills help you make a successful, responsible choices Developing these skills = helping to make responsible choices Values= ideas, beliefs and attitudes about what is important that help guide the way you live. -decisions you make reflect your personal values and the values of your family

4 Decision-Making Process
Decision-making skills= steps that enable you to make a healthful decision HELP Strategy: Ask yourself these questions -H (Healthful)-Does this choice present any health risks? -E (Ethical)- Does this choice reflect your values? -L (Legal)- Does this choice violate any laws? -P (Parent Approval)- What would your parent’s say?

6 Steps in the Decision-Making Process -State the situation -List the options -Weigh the possible outcomes -Consider Values -Make a decision and act on it -Evaluate the decision

6 Goal Setting Working towards goals help you achieve your hopes and dreams Goals= things you aim for that take planning and work Reaching goals depends on the plans you make What are some life goals you have? How do you plan to reach them? What are some goals for your health? How will you reach these goals you set for yourself?

7 Types of Goals Short-term Goals= a goal you can reach in a short period of time Long-term Goals= a goal that you plan to reach over an extended period of time Examples?

8 Reaching Your Goals Make an action plan (a multi step strategy to identify and achieve your goals) Set a specific and realistic goal and write it down List the steps you will take to reach your goal Identify sources of help and support Set a responsible time frame for achieving your goal Evaluate your progress by establishing check points Reward yourself for achieving your goal

9 Homework Page 45 #3-5 In your journal, in addition to writing about your physical, mental/emotional and social well-being, please also include in your journals for the next week about a short term goal you would like to achieve. What is your action plan in achieving that goal and monitor the progress of achieving that goal for the next week. On the last day did you achieve it? How did it make you feel? If not what could you have done differently in order to achieve your goal?
