1 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Library Media Am I ready for this?

2 What is National Board Certification? “A demonstration of teaching practice as measured against high and rigorous standards” (ADE Website). Two major parts of the assessment process: the portfolio and the assessment center One to three years to complete the assessment process and achieve certification.

3 Why pursue National Board certification? Commitment to excellence Professional Development Graduate credit (6 hours) Bonus from state of Arkansas District incentives No Child Left Behind (Highly Qualified Teacher)

4 Eligibility “3 or more years in the classroom in an Arkansas public school prior to candidacy” “Currently engaged in direct classroom instruction with students” “Graduated from accredited college” “Possesses valid Arkansas standard teaching license” (ADE Website).

5 What is the cost? Application fees may be covered by the state An ADE orientation must be attended Application Process to state must be completed Michael Rowland, NBPTS Program Advisor, 1-501-682-1146 or 1-501-682-5535 michael.rowland@arkansas.gov Retake entries currently cost $350.00 each If certification is not achieved, the state must be repaid.
