Wireless Networking:  It’s the technology that enables 2 or more computers to communicate using standard network protocols without the use of network cables.  The Industry standard for this is the IEEE –802.11

Components Of A Wireless Network There are 2 types of wireless networks : Type 1: Number of computers each equipped with a wireless networking interface card.

2 nd Type of Wireless Networks These use an access point as a base station. Hardware Access Point

Software Access Point : The Access Point is software controlled.

Wireless Networking Standards:  IEEE 802.11 is the standard adopted for wireless networks.  This Standard deals with the underlying technology dealing with radio waves as well as data transmission.  The 802.11 standard governs all aspects of Radio Frequency Wireless Networking.

Range OF Wireless Networking : Depends on the access points. The access points have a finite range within which a wireless connection can be maintained between the client computer and the access point. As the medium is empty space the range differs for indoors & outdoors.

Increasing The Range: The range can be increased by increasing the number of access points.

Roaming Necessary when you are constantly on the move.

Security Security in Wireless networking is achieved by a form of encryption which provides privacy comparable to that of a traditional wired network.

Ultimately:  Wireless cards are analogous to Ethernet cards.  Free Space is analogous to Ethernet cables.

Sharing the Internet Connection with Wireless Networking

2 Method:

Summary New & improving technology. Makes it easy for people on the move. Forms the basics of the Blue tooth protocol where microchips communicate with each other.
