11-15 th March 2012

Some facts to get you thinking about how importance attendance at school really is.

 That’s half a day off school every week!  Over the school year, 90% attendance equates to 4 whole weeks off school.  Over your 5 years in secondary school, 90% attendance means that you have missed HALF A SCHOOL YEAR!!

 Arriving 5 minutes late every day adds up to over 3 days lost each year  Arriving 15 minutes late every day is the same as being absent for 2 weeks a year  Arriving 30 minutes late every day is the same as being absent for 19 days a year

 If you have no qualifications, and you are able to get a job, you are likely to earn £7.44 per hour  If you have GCSEs you can earn around £9.03 per hour  If you have A levels you can boost that to around £10.25 per hour  If you have a degree you can be earning upwards of £15.01 per hour

 93% Attendance (or better) gives you a 73% chance of achieving 5 GCSEs, grades A-C, whatever your ability  Below 90% Attendance will give you a 27% chance of achieving 5 GCSEs, grades A-C, whatever your ability

 90% = 20 weeks missed = 1 ½ terms missed  80% = 40 weeks missed = 1 year missed  70% = 60 weeks missed = 1 ½ years missed  60% = 80 weeks missed = 2 years missed

 If a school can improve attendance by 1%, they will see a 5-6% improvement in attainment (DfE statistic)

100% attendance.
