1 Welcome To China! Presented By: Angela Peng

2 Introduction China has a population of approximately 1.26 million people, which makes out 22 percent of the world’s total population. In China, the most commonly spoken language is Mandarin. Following that, is the 2 nd main language which is Cantonese. After that, is the main city which is the capital of China, Beijing and just after that, Shanghai. The main religions are Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. China is the world’s largest producers of aluminum, and their leading export minerals are tungsten, antimony, tin, magnesium, molybdenum, etc… China borders with North Korea, Russia and a lot of other Asian countries. China is mostly part of the North Hemisphere, while a meager part of the country is in the Southern Hemisphere.

3 Environment In China, there are a lot of festivals and traditions; probably the most famous one is Chinese New Year. Every year when visiting others people usually bring 8 fruits and to be lucky they decorate things with red so that the evil spirits get scared away. The next one would be the Spring Festival, the spring festival is the most important and grandest only to the westerners. The spring festival celebrates family reunion is full of rich and colorful activities, and new hopes with the advent of spring and flowers blossoming. In China there are many rivers, however the longest one is called the Yangtze River, following that, is the Yellow River. The Yellow River floods many villages at a certain time, development have already initiated. The Yangtze River is the longest river in China, from Tibet to Shanghai via Chonquing, Yichang, Wuhan, and Nanjing. The Himalayas (Mt.Everest) is on the border of Tibet and Nepal, to climb the mountain you must be at a certain age and be strong to withstand the force of winds up in the mountain. In Nei Mongol (Inner Mongolia) there is a desert called Gobi Desert, as you can you see in the picture (on the left) it is a vast desert which covers a specific area. The states on the coastline are: Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin and Liaoning. Festivals and Traditions

4 Native Animals An Interesting Site! The Great Wall Of China The Great Wall of China stretches approximately 8,851.8 km from east to west. Known for the architectural grandeur and historical significance the Great Wall of China is listed as one of the world’s greatest wonders. Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered the Great Wall to be constructed to prevent the invaders from the north. The Great Wall is more than 2,000 years old. The Giant Panda In China the most famous wildlife is the Great Panda. The Great Panda lives in mountains. About 99% of the Giant Panda’s diet is bamboo shoots and leaves. Many people don’t see pandas because pandas are shy creatures, they don’t venture into areas that people live in. The Snow Leopard A snow leopard lives in the mountains of Western China. It adapts to the temperatures by having spotted fur and hairy feet pads. The Snow Leopard feeds upon wild sheep and goats. It is hunted for its fur, bones and other organs used in traditional Chinese medicines.
