3. Early life She started her life as a teacher She taught at Lucasville & Africville She competed in the Halifax music festival & won 4 years running She did devotional radio broadcasts 2

4. Adult-hood She sang for Queen Elizabeth the 2 nd She was known as Canada’s Marian Anderson Portia’s fame didn’t last long because she had a slight rasp in her voice Her last performance was July 1967 She died in 1968 3
