Promoting the environment by emphasizing natural elements and enhancing open spaces. 3. Supporting recreation, education, cultural arts, and community events. The Mission of Tuscawilla Park is to enhance the quality of life by:

2 Re-Invent Tuscawilla Design Competition 1. City Council direction for development of a Tuscawilla Master Plan. 2. Collaboration of City Staff from multiple departments develop Mission Statement and set of goals. 3. Creation of Re-Invent Tuscawilla Design Competition with the goal of obtaining design professionals input during the planning process of the Tuscawilla Master Plan. 4. Finalization of Tuscawilla Master Plan and the implementation by the City. Competition Purpose Tuscawilla Park serves as an integral downtown asset to the City of Ocala. Historically the park has served as the City’s central park where city-wide events were held and the congregation of citizens’ was prevalent. In addition, the Tuscawilla district has an abundance of historical structures many of which are in need of rehabilitation. The competition will serve a two-fold purpose; first as a catalyst for innovation and creativity, second as a tool that will educate and inform the citizens’ of Ocala for a clear community understanding for the vision of the Tuscawilla district. Currently, the Tuscawilla district is in a period of rebirth where both the citizens’ and City are looking for ideas that meet the needs of the growing community.

3 Re-Invent Tuscawilla Design Competition Eligible Applicants Professional architects, landscape architects, intern architects, urban planners, engineers, artists, students, and other design professionals. Selection Jury Will consist of city staff and other design professionals from the local community and universities. The jury’s intent will be to provide an independent and impartial selection of the entry that best attends to the concerns regarding the Tuscawilla district.

4 Re-Invent Tuscawilla Design Competition Design Submittal Requirements The City of Ocala will provide two 24x36 inch base maps in both digital and hard copy formats. All submittals must incorporate the base maps in their design as well as any other form that best represents the designers overall vision. All submittals must include both digital and hard copy formats. Design Selection Requirements The selected jury will make their selection based upon the design that best incorporates the primary and secondary issues of the Tuscawilla district laid out in the Design Challenges section. 5 Re-Invent Tuscawilla Design Competition What other cities are doing The city of Nashua, New Hampshire has set forth a design competition that is currently on going and is open for international competition with the primary focus of generating ideas for a particular section of the city that honors Nashua’s manufacturing and cultural heritage.
