5 Writing a Research Proposal The purpose of writing a research proposal is: –To explain to yourself and the instructor what you think you want to research –To give the instructor an opportunity to give you feedback before you begin working

6 Writing a Research Proposal Good sources of topics for your research paper are: –Newspapers –Newsmagazines –The Internet –Academic journals –Textbooks (including ours - Guidelines)

7 Writing a Research Proposal Important things to consider in choosing a topic: –Is this topic controversial? –Do I have a point of view about this topic? (e.g., are you for or against abortion?) –Is this topic researchable? –What sources will I use?
