PREPARING THE TRAINING SESSION ADRESS THE 3 BASIC QUESTIONS: WHO WHAT WHAT FOR

PREPARING THE TRAINING SESSION WHO: select a small group of people allow for different experiences and views WHAT FOR State clearly and in advance the goals of your training seminar Make them known to the participants

PREPARING THE TRAINING SESSION WHAT Define a structure for the seminar that is consistent with your goals and the participants Define what materials need to be handed in before and during the seminar –Do they need to prepare something in advance? i.e. read something, think of examples Define the time that you will ( and can) assign to the training: not too much, not too little Define who will deliver the training with you, if necessary

PREPARING THE TRAINING SESSION WHAT Prepare the contents of the workshop –Scope ( How much? How focused? How detailed?) –You may partition the training through time ( i.e. Procurement of goods or procurement of services, or focus on one aspect of particular relevance: information that needs to be made public etc) –What background is needed to introduce the participants to the subject? Prepare the method you will use: be creative and feel comofortable. (Active or passive seminar? Cases? Scenarios?)

DELIVERING THE WORKSHOP Pay attention to process and substance as well (content) ON PROCESS: Encourage questions, allow for time and empowerment for participants to formulate them Give a shared sense of goal for the meeting Set limits: time, behaviour, etc. ON CONTENT Make sure the workshop is well prepared Remain flexible and prepared to attend arising unforeseen questions

DELIVERING THE WORKSHOP Evaluate the workshop. Use a questionnaire or a form. This will allow you to improve with time. Optimal to set a goal that you can then see through time: for example: „deliver 2 trainings a year“ so you can follow up. Learning should continue after your seminar! Encourage participants to support each other! Or think of ways in which assitance after the seminar can be provided.
