5 Grammar: Using a Dictionary A dictionary is used to find the meaning of a word you do not know. The meaning of a word is called the definition.

6 Skill: Using a Dictionary A dictionary is also used to show you the correct spelling of a word. Each word is called an entry. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

7 Skill: Using a Dictionary All words in a dictionary are listed in alphabetical order. That means all words that start with a are in the front of the book and words that start with z are in the back of the book.
