3 Whole numbers A whole number can’t be a fraction of a number or have a decimal A whole number is on the left side of the point The name of the group (such as thousands) is included when a whole number is read The word “and” is not used when saying or writing whole numbers A decimal is part of a whole number, e.g., 0.5 is half of a whole number A decimal number includes a decimal point and digit(s) to the right of the decimal point the only name read is that of the greatest decimal place when a decimal number is read The word “and” is used to represent the decimal point when saying or writing decimal numbers Decimal numbers
