2 Plants and animals may be affected by changes in their environment. These include:  Living factors  Disease (micro- organisms)  Predators  Lack of woodland  Competitors  Non-living factors:  Average temperature  Average rainfall  Human changes  PH of the soil

3 For example:  The number of red squirrels decreased after the introduction of a new competitor, the grey squirrel.  The number of wild British birds has declined due to intensive farming. This has led to less woodland to find food, less woodland to hide from predators and no where to nest in.

4 Environmental change can be measured using scientific equipment:  Thermometer  Rain gauge  Temperature probe  PH probe

5 Environmental change can be measured using living organisms:  Species of Lichens (crusty, leafy and shrubby varieties) to indicate air pollution  Varieties of small invertebrates to indicate water pollution
