2. The Organs The esophagus, the liver, the stomach, the small intestine, the large intestine, the pancreas and the gallbladder.

3. The Mouth The food’s journey through your body all starts in your mouth. You chew the food which breaks down the food into smaller pieces. While that is happening, your tongue is mixing saliva into the food.

4. The Stomach In the stomach, food is mixed with enzymes, which helps break the food down. Food moves through your stomach in two to four hours being changed into chyme.

5. Small Intestine First bile is added to the chyme. The bile breaks up the large particles in the chyme. On the walls of the small intestine are villi. Molecules of nutrients move into blood vessels within the villi.

6. Large Intestine In the large intestine water is removed from the chyme and it becomes a solid. Then it exits through the rectum.

7. The Purpose The purpose of the digestive system is to break down food.

8. Other Systems The digestive system works with the circulatory system because nutrients from the food is carried through out the body through blood. It also works with the excretory system because the excretory system removes waste made from food.

9. My Model I made my model out of newspaper, masking tape, and paint. My model is a one to one scale of the average 12 to 13 year olds digestive system.
