2  Lackawanna Blind Association (LBA) was founded in 1912. In 2009, LBA received its first Certificate of Accreditation from the National Accreditation Council (NAC) for Agencies Serving People with Blindness and Visual Impairments. In September, 2014, LBA once again was awarded a 5-year certification from NAC. FAST FACTS

3  Programs include case management for homebound clients, sensory development activities, computer training in Zoom Text & the Guide, reduced-fee eyeglasses, the Pell Radio Reading Service, recreation, life skills education, transportation, support group, audio book club, exercise classes, a visual support center, and prevention of blindness screenings and education for children and adults.  LBA volunteers number over 100, including Friends of the Blind, Prevention of Blindness screeners, board members, Pell Radio Readers, and activity aides.

4  LBA partners include 28 chapters of the state-wide PA Association for the Blind, as well as:  PA Council of the Blind  Bureau of Blindness & Visual Services  United Way of Lackawanna & Wayne Counties  Area Agency on Aging  Lackawanna County Assistance Office  University of Scranton’s Occupational Therapy Department  Telespond, Ears for Eyes, Lackawanna Coordinated Transportation System, Meals on Wheels, Voluntary Action Center, Catholic Social Services, Scranton Counseling Center, Pittsburgh Library for the Blind, and the Center for Independent Living.

5  LBA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, registered with the PA Bureau of Charitable Organizations. Programs are funded through private and public sources including the PA Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services/Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, United Way of Lackawanna & Wayne County, foundations, annual fundraising events and community donations.
