IV.2.1Cognitive vision systems Issue: Issue: vision systems acquiring and using knowledge for decision making Aim: Aim: to develop robust cognitive vision systems Scope: Scope: adaptive systems, real-time platforms and vision architectures – –permitting the development of novel computational frameworks – –integrating multiple cues for scene modelling – –capable of recognising large numbers of different objects temporal reasoning and incremental learning to achieve cognition

IV.2.3 Networks and technologies for distributed services and applications (i) Issue: Issue: all-optical networks Aim: Aim: to develop terabit capacity and WDM optical networks capable of supporting heterogeneous, multi- protocol services and applications Scope: Scope: technologies and architectures exploiting advances in optical transmission, switching and routing interworking in the physical layer of optical core/metropolitan networks and heterogeneous WAN, LAN and access networks (mobile and fixed)

IV.2.3 Networks and technologies for distributed services and applications (ii) Issue: Issue: communications networks Aim: - Aim: - to increase bandwidth capacity and QoS network agility and functionality - - to support seamless interoperability among heterogeneous networks (including access networks and LANs) service interworking and management Scope: Scope: network devices and protocols to support the full range of advanced (Internet, nomadic and interactive TV) services and applications active and dynamically reconfigurable network technologies, methods and tools
