5 Harry Potter-vs-Matched Harry Potter Matched Criteria One: Joanne Rowling has written and published no other books before the Harry Potter series. These books were her first works, and they were surprisingly successful for a first- timer. Criteria Two: Out of the seven books written, eight movies were made. Like Twilight, the last book was split into two movies. So there were eight total movies. Criteria Three: Out of all of the books/movies/merchandise sold, $24,751,000,000 was made. On an Internet poll, 82% of voters said they prefer Harry Potter to Matched. Criteria One: Ally Condie had not written any books before Matched. Even though she had no prior experience, the books were a success and were rated four stars. Criteria Two: There have been no movies made based on any of the books. However, a movie of the first book is being produced and is scheduled for release in the next couple of years. Criteria Three: This series was rated four stars. On an Internet poll, 18% of voters said they prefer Matched to Harry Potter. We couldn’t find the total amount of money made from the books/merchandise.

It was incredible how someone with no prior writing experience wrote a series that may have become one of the most popular series ever. Criteria Two: Out of the four books in the series, five movies were made. Like Harry Potter, the last book was split into two films. All of the books were accounted for, and there was one more movie. Criteria Three: The total amount of money from the books/movies/merchandise was $5,736,100,000. On an Internet poll, 65% of voters said they prefer Twilight. Criteria One: Daniel Handler had written other books before A Series of Unfortunate Events. He wrote The Basic Eight (his first book) and Watch Your Mouth (his second). Criteria Two: In The Series of Unfortunate Events, there are thirteen books. Out of the thirteen books, there is one movie. The one movie combines the first three books in the series, and rumors of a sequel. No official statement has been made, but Handler is still considering. Criteria Three: The total amount of money made from the books and movies and merchandise was $209,073,645. On an Internet poll, 35% of voters prefer ASUE.

She was first a children’s television writer, and wrote articles for Scholastic Entertainment. Her first book was Gregor the Overlander. Criteria Two: The first book in the Hunger Games trilogy (The Hunger Games) was made into one movie. Catching Fire is scheduled for release in 2013. Criteria Three: On an Internet poll, 80% of voters say they prefer The Hunger Games to Inkheart. The film franchise totaled $408,010,962. Criteria One: The author of the Inkheart series already had experience with writing. Cornelia Funke wrote Dragon Rider and The Thief Lord before the Inkheart trilogy. Criteria Two: The first book in the series (Inkheart) was made into a movie. There has been speculation about a second movie (Inkspell), but no confirmed plans. Criteria Three: On an Internet poll, 20% of voters said they prefer the Inkheart series to the Hunger Games. The total amount of money earned for the film was $62,450,361.

The films and books made $226,497,209. Criteria One: Clive Staples Lewis (author) had experience with writing. He wrote eleven other books before the Chronicles of Narnia. Criteria Two: Out of the seven books in the series, three movies were made. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; Prince Caspian (book three); and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Criteria Three: On an Internet poll. 3/8 voters say they prefer Narnia (37.5%). The books and films made $1,580,364,900.
