3 Mission, Vision and Values
Troop 1600 Junior Leader Training Mission, Vision and Values Mission – Explains the organization’s or individual’s main aim or purpose – It defines why we exist Vision – Expresses the organization’s or individual’s desired destination within a certain time frame – It defines where we are going. Values – Represent the basic priorities in the organization that drive the mission. Goals – The roadmap to make the vision a reality Values, mission and vision are all linked together and our goals help us achieve them. Module: Setting Goals

BSA Mission and Vision Mission The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make moral and ethical choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Vision The Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. In the future Scouting will continue to: Offer young people responsible fun and adventure; Instill in young people lifetime values and develop in them ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law Train young people in citizenship, service and leadership Serve America’s communities and families with its quality, values-based program Module: Setting Goals

SMART Goals Specific – let’s be as detailed as we can so that we can easily see how we’re doing Measurable – We can’t tell if we’re improving if we can’t measure our progress Attainable – let’s be realistic about what we can achieve in the next year. Relevant – keep in mind our short and longer term mission and make sure the goals support it Timely – let’s be as specific as we can with timing and keep to our 1 year time horizon Module: Setting Goals

6 Journey To Excellence “Scouting’s Journey to Excellence” is the BSA’s new council performance recognition program designed to encourage and reward success and measure the performance of our units, districts, and councils. It is replacing the Centennial Quality Awards Program as a means of encouraging excellence in providing a quality program at all levels of the BSA

7 Troop Goals Outdoor Program – Camping, Hiking, Backpacking, Summer Camp, High Adventure Recruitment and Retention – Webelos transition, outside recruitment, roster size Advancement and Learning Service – to our Chartered Org and the Community Leadership – PLC participation, Elections, Youth leader training completed Individual Patrol Goals

8 Journey to Excellence Goals
Advancement – increase percentage of scouts earning rank advancements Retention – improve retention rate Building Boy Scouting – increase in overall troop membership Trained Leadership – Adult positions and Youth Leader Training Camping – Troop conducts short term weekend camping PLUS attends Long Term Camping – summer camp/high adventure Patrol Method – Troop has functioning PLC Service – Troop participates in Service Projects Webelos to Scout Transition – have a plan! Budget – Troop operates with a Budget – scouts participate Courts of Honor – Troop holds COH’s to recognize achievement Fitness – New in 2012 – build a fitness plans into our yearly program
