5 Starting Excel and Renaming a File b Start Excel b Open the workbook b Documentation appears as the first sheet in the workbook b Type your name and date in the cells b Save the workbook b The new filename appears in the title bar

6 EXCEL CHART TYPES b Refer to figure 4-2 for Excel chart types b Refer to figure 4-3 for chart subtypes for column chart type b Refer to Figure 4-4 for the following Excel chart elements: Chart area - is the entire chartChart area - is the entire chart X-axis - horizontal axisX-axis - horizontal axis Y-axis - vertical axisY-axis - vertical axis

7 EXCEL CHART TYPES b A tick mark label - identifies the categories, values or series in the chart b A tick mark - small line that intersects an axis b Grid lines - extend the tick marks to make it easier to see the values of data markers

8 EXCEL CHART TYPES Data point - is a single value originating from a worksheet cellData point - is a single value originating from a worksheet cell Data marker - a graphic representing a data point in a chartData marker - a graphic representing a data point in a chart Data series - a group of related data pointsData series - a group of related data points

9 PLANNING A CHART b Identify the data points to be plotted b Choose an appropriate chart type b Sketch the chart b Decide on the chart’s location b Refer to Figure 4-5

10 CREATING A COLUMN CHART b Select the data b Click the Chart Wizard Button b Follow the series of steps b Click the Column chart type b Press and Hold to View Sample button b Click Next Button b Follow the steps to to change data series

11 Moving and Resizing a Chart b Select the chart b Position the pointer, click and hold down the mouse and drag the chart b Release the mouse to view the chart in the new position b Hold and drag the mouse button to resize b Refer to Figure 4-14

12 Update and Modify a Chart b Click the cell that needs correction b Type the content and press Enter b Select the chart b Click the data marker within the series you want to delete b Press the Delete Key b Refer to Figures 4-16 and 4-17

13 Editing Chart Text b Three categories of text: LabelLabel AttachedAttached UnattachedUnattached b Select the chart title b Press the space bar and type the new title b Similarly, change the Y-axis title

17 CREATING A PIE CHART b Click and select the first range b Press and hold the Ctrl Key while you select additional cells b After selection, release the Ctrl Key b Click the Chart Wizard Button b Click the Pie chart type b Click Press and Hold to view Sample

18 CREATING A PIE CHART b Click the Next button b Click the Titles tab, click chart title, and type the title b Click the data Labels and then click Show Label and Percent option b Click Legend and then click Show Legend b Click next and place the chart As new sheet b Click Finish

19 EXPLODING A SLICE OF A PIE CHART b Click the chart type and click 3-D pie chart b Click the slice you want to explode b Drag the selected slice away from the center of the chart b Click Chart, 3-D view, Clockwise rotation arrow button b Click OK to apply changes b Refer to Figures 4-27, 4-28, and 4-30

20 Applying Texture - Fill Effect b Select the chart area b Click Format, Chart Area b Click Patterns, Fill Effects, and then Texture b Click Blue tissue paper b Click OK - Figures 4-32 and 4-33 b Click Save b Click Print to print the chart

21 Creating a Bar Chart b Select b Select any two non-adjacent ranges b Click b Click the Chart Wizard Button the Bar chart type the Press and Hold to View Sample Button to preview the chart Next twice the Titles tab

22 Creating a Bar Chart b Click the Chart title text box b Type the text for the X and Y axes b Click the Legend tab and click show Legend b Click Next b Click As new sheet option b Type Bar Chart b Click Finish

23 Using Pictures in a Bar Chart b Create the bar Chart b Select the bars to be replaced with pictures b Click Insert, Point to Picture and then click From File to display the picture dialog box b Select the image file b Click Insert b Refer to Figure 4-35

24 Stretching and Stacking Pictures b Click b Click the Format Data Series Button the Patterns Tab Fill Effects, click the Picture Tab the Stack and Scale Option Button OK twice ( Figure 4-36) Documentation, Save b Close b Close the workbook and Exit Excel
