3 Background: why myfuture.edu.au was developed Career and job search information is available in Australia but it is difficult to have everything you need at one location. Models of online career systems were already being designed and used overseas. Advances in technology presented the opportunity to create a comprehensive user-friendly service.

4 Planning the myfuture.edu.au site included researching the market. The groups identified by the research are:  Secondary Students  Students undertaking further education and training  All Australians interest in career exploration  Career professionals  Teachers  Parents and Guardians.

5 Purpose - to present a career planning and information service that incorporates: life planning self awareness life long learning career self-management lifestyle management.

6 What you will find at myfuture.edu.au : The three main types of services featured on myfuture are: My Guide: a career exploration tool The Facts: for career information Assist Others: advice for those supporting others making career decisions. Each of these sections is supported with articles like, What is a career?, Get a Job, Working Overseas, Small Business.

7 Other features of myfuture.edu.au include: New and Views a service that provides: Calendar of events Career research news Stop press New Initiatives Gateway to other career sites news and views services. Contact Us a service enabling users to provide feedback and to submit information on career events and initiatives. Careers Search providing direct access to any information contained in or accessible from, myfuture. Help providing users with assistance in the use of the site.

13 The Identifying stage allows the user to identify preferences and experiences which are then matched to career fields and occupations.

16 The Exploring stage enables the user to select completed inventories and explore related career fields or occupations.

17 Ideas are presented in a non-linear format to encourage users to consider all options.

18 The user may choose to add this occupation to a favourites folder or research further.

19 The Deciding stage is where the user can rank preferences and explore related industries, occupations, vacancies, courses, contacts and articles.

20 The Summarising stage provides an overview of preferences identified in previous activities.
