What kind of class is this? This class has students of on or above level abilities and talents. I will strive to bring out the best in your child academically and socially throughout the year.

The 4 th Grade Curriculum Sarasota County follows the new Florida Standards. For 4 th grade, these standards are Common Core with some additions. Each grade level has an instructional focus guide for the subjects of English/Language Arts (ELA), Math, Social Studies, and Science. We do our best to follow these guidelines.

Reading – 40% tests, quizzes, projects, fluency, benchmark tests Writing – 30% writing in response to reading (RACE), dictation, writing assessments Language – 20% spelling, vocabulary, handwriting, station work Performance – 10% speaking, listening, homework and classwork completion ELA (English/Language Arts)

Math Operations and Algebraic Thinking Number and Operations in Base 10 Number and Operations - Fractions Measurement and Data Geometry Students will be assessed on these standards using the FSA in the spring. We have a new math series: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Please be sure your child has a quick recall of basic facts. It is imperative that these are memorized.

If your child is struggling... Communication is the key! Listen to your child, and talk to me. Have your child bring homework to my attention first thing in the morning. Parent: Email me or call Southside to set up a meeting. Read, read, read, and read some more! Become fluent in multiplication and division facts. (Your child should already be fluent in addition and subtraction.)

Homework Here’s the Plan Read at least 30 minutes every night. Be sure to sign the Reading Log. Vocabulary or Spelling Use your Study Guide and Spelling City! Math HW given M-Th. Science and Social Studies as needed.
