2. Review of Monday’s work and what you can expect. - we reviewed the answers to Outliers chapter 2. We reviewed the modes of discourse as they apply to Outliers chapter 2.

3. Narration - one might think of it as telling a story Description - to describe something—object, person, place, experience, emotion, situation, etc. (the goal is to paint an image that is vivid and moving in the mind of the reader). Exposition - to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner. (This can be accomplished through comparison and contrast, definition, example, the analysis of cause and effect, etc.) Argumentation - to investigate a topic; collect, generate, and evaluate evidence; and establish a position on the topic in a concise manner. This writing is similar to “exposition,” but requires more extensive research. Modes of Discourse: Nonfiction!

4. Song of Solomon discussion We discussed the myths of Circe and Icarus We discussed questions 6, 7, and 8 for the part I discussion questions. – You MUST be able to back up your opinions with evidence from the book. – You MUST give more than surface level observations about the book. Chapters 9-12 will be discussed on Monday, Oct. 6 instead of today.
