* When he was 5 years old, he was hit by a car and was badly injured. He spent two days in a coma and had several visible scars.

* At the age of 7, he and his family had to leave their home in 1940 because of the German invasion. *During that time, his father was very sick, and his grandpa died from cancer. That affected Luc tremendously and was one of the reasons why he decided to study cancers and such.

*In high school, he became very curious in science. *He set up a chemistry lab in the cellar of his house, where he experimented for fun.

*In 1983 he led the first team to find the cause of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which was the cause of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Francoise Barre-Sinoussi was on the research team. *Received over 34 honors and awards
