3 WHY PLANNING IS FUNDAMENTAL Exchange Server 2003 is a complex application It is tightly integrated with Active Directory Decisions made at this stage have both installation and operational implications Exchange Server 2003 is a complex application It is tightly integrated with Active Directory Decisions made at this stage have both installation and operational implications

4 INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS Supported combinations of Exchange and Windows Server Hardware requirements Windows services required by Exchange Server 2003 Supported combinations of Exchange and Windows Server Hardware requirements Windows services required by Exchange Server 2003

5 SUPPORTED COMBINATIONS OF EXCHANGE AND WINDOWS SERVER Windows NT 4.0 Server Exchange Server 5.5 Windows 2000 Server (any service pack) Exchange 2000 Server Exchange Server 2003 Windows 2000 Server (SP1 or later) Windows 2000 Server (SP3 or later) Windows Server 2003

7 HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

8 ROLES AND PERMISSIONS Run ForestPrep for the first time Schema Admins Enterprise Admins Schema Admins Enterprise Admins Task Role or Group Membership Exchange Full Administrator at the organization level Run ForestPrep, other than for the first time Exchange Full Administrator at the organization level Run DomainPrep Domain Admins (in the target domain) Install the first server in a domain Exchange Full Administrator at the organization level Install additional servers in a domain Exchange Full Administrator at the administrative group level Install a server with the Site Replication Service (SRS) enabled

9 SERVICES REQUIRED Microsoft.NET Framework Microsoft ASP.NET World Wide Web (WWW) service Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service

10 MICROSOFT.NET FRAMEWORK Built into the Windows Server 2003 operating system Automatically installed and enabled in Windows 2000 Server

11 ASP.NET Application Server Windows component Installed and enabled in Windows 2000 Server Not installed and enabled in Windows Server 2003 Installed using Add Or Remove Programs in Control Panel

12 INTERNET INFORMATION SERVICES (IIS) COMPONENTS WWW service SMTP service NNTP service

13 PREPARING FORESTS AND DOMAINS ForestPrep DomainPrep

14 FORESTPREP A Setup.exe switch Updates the schema and configuration partitions Must be run in the forest root domain Does not need to be run on the server on which you are installing Exchange No need to specify an organization name Runs from Run command line or Exchange Installation Wizard

15 FORESTPREP SETUP Insert the Exchange Server 2003 CD Run ForestPrep from the Run command box

16 MICROSOFT EXCHANGE INSTALLATION WIZARD Starts when you run Setup with the ForestPrep switch

17 MICROSOFT EXCHANGE INSTALLATION WIZARD (CONT.) Read the End User License Agreement (EULA)

18 MICROSOFT EXCHANGE INSTALLATION WIZARD (CONT.) If you try to install Exchange Server 2003 without running ForestPrep the same screen appears

19 DOMAINPREP A Setup.exe switch Updates the domain partition Run it in any domain that will contain Exchange Server 2003 servers Run it in any domain that will contain Exchange mailbox-enabled objects Does not need to be run on the server on which you are installing Exchange

20 SECURITY GROUPS CREATED BY DOMAINPREP Exchange Domain Servers A global group that contains all Exchange servers running in the domain you selected Exchange Enterprise Servers A domain local group that contains all Exchange Domain Servers global groups

21 INSTALLING EXCHANGE SERVER 2003 Installation types Installing into a new organization

22 INSTALLATION TYPES Create a new Exchange organization Join or upgrade an existing Exchange Server 5.5 organization

23 SETUP.EXE SWITCHES /choosedc dcname /disasterrecovery /domainprep /forestprep /all /createunattend filename.ini /? /unattendfile filename.ini /encryptedmode /showui /password password /noerrorlogging /noeventlog

24 INSTALLATION PROCESS Accept the EULA Component selection Installation options Installation type Organization name Confirm installation choices Licensing agreement Installation

26 INSTALLATION TYPE

27 ORGANIZATION NAME

28 CONFIRM YOUR CHOICES

29 LICENSING AGREEMENT

30 INSTALLATION

31 UNATTENDED INSTALLATION

32 PERFORMING AN UNATTENDED INSTALLATION

33 VERIFYING INSTALLATION

34 REMOVING AN EXCHANGE SERVER FROM AN INSTALLATION This operation is performed when: Retiring an aging server Phasing out a previous version of Exchange The operation can be done by: Using the Exchange Installation Wizard Forcible removal

35 REMOVING AN EXCHANGE SERVER USING EXCHANGE INSTALLATION WIZARD Preferred method Setup removes all references to the server in Active Directory

36 PREREQUISITES FOR REMOVING AN EXCHANGE SERVER WITH EXCHANGE INSTALLATION WIZARD Move or remove all mailboxes Not a bridgehead server Not a routing group master Not part of any connection agreements Cannot have any connectors installed and in use Special roles must be transferred

37 FORCIBLE REMOVAL Not the recommended option Use if you cannot use Exchange Installation Wizard Use if you have a lot of mailboxes you no longer need and don’t want to remove them manually Only removes references in Active Directory Additional registry editing required

38 FORCIBLY REMOVING EXCHANGE SERVER 2003 Use Exchange System Manager Click Yes to ignore the warning Delete the required registry keys as listed in the Help file Remove the IIS components required by Exchange Server 2003 (if they are not used for anything else)

39 AFTER FORCIBLY REMOVING EXCHANGE SERVER 2003 Reboot the server Delete the folder structure and contents for Exchange Server installation If server is installed in an Exchange Server 5.5 site, delete the object in Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator (Optionally) reinstall Windows Reapply service packs

40 SUMMARY Plan installation Prepare forest and domains Ensure necessary services are installed Perform an Exchange Server 2003 installation Unattended installation can be used for subsequent servers Use Exchange Installation Wizard to remove an Exchange Server 2003 server Plan installation Prepare forest and domains Ensure necessary services are installed Perform an Exchange Server 2003 installation Unattended installation can be used for subsequent servers Use Exchange Installation Wizard to remove an Exchange Server 2003 server
