2 The Good 1920’s Increased Standard of Living Consumer Goods- Car, Radio, Refrigerator Booming Economy New Warmups, Team Bags and New Balls New Superstar Sophomores- Wentz, Schneider, Hanna Lancers start off season 4-0

3 Causes Overproduction- Production outpaced demand Speculation- Assuming Stocks would keep going up Stocks on Margin- Ignored Underlying Flaws Coach Hair bought too many basketballs The Team expected to keep winning Ignored defensive problems

4 The Depression Thousands of layoffs hurt economy and slowed it down Previous Luxuries were no longer affordable Republican Failure led to Democratic Dominance Lost 13 Straight Games and Spiraled Out of Control No more Fun- No Dunk Contests- No Knockout Players were Benched and New Ones were put in

5 Hoover Hoover followed Laissez Faire Policy- Left Responsibility to People and Businesses Hoover didn’t help the citizens to alleviate suffering and only provided a few jobs Coach Hair relied on his players to turn it around but they didn’t The players were beat and they ran 20 miles every practice

6 FDR & New Deal FDR gets voted president and immediately regulates the banking system. (1 st New Deal)FDR sets up the NRA and the AAA to deal with economy. (2 nd New Deal) FDR sets up the Wagner Act, the WPA, and the Social Security Act to deal with social issues and relief. Coach Hair regulated the team’s defense. First, Coach Hair got the team in shape and ready for sub state. Second, Coach Hair made new plays to improve the offense.

7 Impact of New Deal The New Deal led to the successful relief of millions of unemployed and destitute citizens. Labor unions significantly grew as well as the overall quality of life. Disputes with the supreme court and the decision to cut spending for the WPA hurt the legacy of FDR and the New Deal. (Shift to Repubs) Win first sub state game against BVN. Team chemistry improved significantly. The loss against BVW left a bad memory of the season for the team.
