CfAO NSF Site Visit 09/19/01 4 Students Generate New Ideas Kona participants responded eagerly to the question "What can the Center do for you?" A survey completed at 2001 the Summer School identified the four most popular ideas: 1. Institute more active learning at the CfAO Summer School 2. Hold other conferences for students/postdocs only 2. Develop technical resources 3. Require graduate students to give lectures 3. Make mini-grants available throughout year

" Was this conference a good use of your time?" 22% agree, 60% strongly agree "Would you recommend this conference to others?" 26% agree, 57% strongly agree "It's great to have sessions with only grads and postdocs." CfAO NSF Site Visit 09/19/01 8 Graduate Studies Working Group This group will address such issues as: 1) What can the CfAO do for graduate students that goes beyond what is offered in conventional graduate programs? 2) What can we, as a Center, do to reduce the time to degree? 3) What can we, as a Center, do to recruit more graduate students from underrepresented groups (women and minorities)?
