Lesson 10 Using AutoShapes, WordArt, and Comments Lesson 10 Using AutoShapes, WordArt, and Comments

Design Objects Design objects include text boxes, lines, arrows, and callouts. Design objects are placed on a draw layer. The draw layer is an invisible layer that is separate from the worksheet data. An autoshape is a common, recognized figure, shape, or outline. Once you have selected your tool and click on the screen, a box may appear as shown here. This gives you the option of inserting the object in that box. All you have to do is press the [ESC] key to make the box disappear.

Common Features of Most Objects Selection handles - small white circles surrounding the shape’s bounding box. Adjustment handle – a yellow diamond used to change the appearance and design of the shape; each shape has its own type of adjustments. This will not show until you click the bounding box, which will turn to dots instead of slashes. Rotation handle – a green circle that acts as a wand to rotate an object. A bounding box – a rectangle outline around an object.

Adding Callouts A callout is a descriptive text enclosed in a shape. Callouts typically include a line/arrow that points to data or object. Use the DRAW Toolbar > AutoShapes > Callouts option You must first click the bounding box so that you can edit it. Click inside the callout to add text to it. You can change font type and size. Change line style and color, fill color, etc. using these buttons on the toolbar. Double-clicking bounding box displays the Format Text Box window.

Adding a Text Box A text box is similar to a callout but does not have connector lines or arrows. You can use a text box to display titles, comments, or notes. Use the DRAW Toolbar > Text Box Your cursor will have a different shape. Click and drag cursor to shape and size you desire. Click inside the Text Box to add text to it. You can change font type and size. Change line style and color, fill color, etc. using buttons on the DRAW toolbar. Double-clicking the bounding box will give you the Format dialog text box.
