1 Filling Your Bank With Partners and Profits Or Improving the Quality of After School Programming Ann Torbert Youth Specialist Linn, Benton, and Iowa Counties

2 Find Your Partners Child care resource referral Church youth groups Libraries Who are your partners?

3 Survey your people Where are the programming needs? What other questions would you add to this survey?

4 Visit a Center It helps to “walk a mile” with those who work in a center. Where could you visit?

5 Feature hands on learning ideas along with a youth development kernel of knowledge. What would you share with after school staff?

6 Set event dates Consider holding 1 program before May. Charge fee/marketing Recruit separately for summer trainings. When would you hold your first event?

7 Fees For 90 minute presentations I charge $10 per person. For summer training for large groups I charge $50 per session – for either 45 minutes or 90 minutes. For “specially designed work” I charge $125 – includes all supplies.

8 Certificates Those who attend training need certificates documenting their attendance. My version is based off of Child Care certificates. Who will create your certificates?

9 Consider kits Create kits for cloverkid aged youth. Post kit availability on-line Consider a check-out fee Name 3 kits you would like to make.

10 Kits for Linn County Linn County has over 30 kits – some are locally owned- others state owned. We charge a $30 membership fee – annually. View the online calendar at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/linn/info/4h/4H+Kit+Information.htm Click on view calendar.

11 Recreation – Games Create one training on games- Indoor, outdoor, water, and waiting in line games Safety/Risk management What are your favorite game resources? What games can you teach?

12 Partner with our own staff Joan Donovan, Janet Anderson, Nutrition staff, families staff. Who would you ask to present to after school providers?
