A ratio can be written 3 ways-
fraction form ( a/b ),
a colon (a:b),
or the word to (a to b).
HERE IS THE TRICK TO ALWAYS GET IT RIGHT!!!! The magic word is TO. Place a fraction bar over the word TO in the sentence, and write the numbers asked for and you have your fraction!.
Ex-Mrs. Howard has 24 chickens. 10 are Rhode Island Reds. What is the ratio of Reds to all the chickens?
Now simplify 10/24 = 5/12. 10 24

Sometimes, simplified answers are required for ratios. To simplify, find the GCF and then divide the numerator AND the denominator by the GCF.
