3 AARP 3 Background  Since 1980, the prevalence of adults who have obesity has doubled, from about 15% to 30%.  Seven of every 10 Americans who die each year, or more than 1.7 million people, die of a chronic disease.  Experts fear that the rising obesity rates in today's children may mean the next generation will have a shorter life span than their parents.  Today, 690 million people worldwide, including more than 65 million in the United States, are thought to have high blood pressure.  About 4.5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease. It is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.

4 AARP 4 AARP stands as a champion advocate for the healthy wellbeing of all Americans – regardless of generation. As such, AARP will continue to encourage and support healthy behaviors in an effort to heed off preventative health problems. The AARP Position

8 AARP 8 Getting Fit on Route 66  An award-winning, fun physical activity adventure designed to inspire you to be more active as you trace the famous route of this virtual highway.  It was recognized by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) with an innovation in physical activity programming award.  Your goal is to "travel" from Chicago to Santa Monica (2,448 miles) by recording your physical activity minutes. 9 AARP 9 Wellness Tour  Delivers free health screenings and health education to communities across the country with a special emphasis on diverse and underserved areas.  Screenings include: Total Cholesterol Levels, Blood Pressure, Bone Density Glucose Levels, Waist Circumference, &BMI  The Wellness Tour is coming to Chicago’s Navy Pier June 5 th & 6 th during the AARP Life Festival!
