Note: This is an outline of what your presentation should include Please do add color, images, and other formatting changes as you see fit…make it look appealing! For example… You should include each of the major elements I have outlined below, but there is no need to use my headings If comparing national to Von Steuben data requires 2 slides per comparison, that is fine The presentation should be between 7-10 minutes and EVERYONE should speak and have a role

Teenage Drug Use Survey: [Drug Name] Von Steuben vs. National Data Group Names Period Date

Drug Overview: [your drug name] What it is Street names vs. chemical or other names How it’s grown/produced How it is used Effects of the drug Other details about the drug that are relevant Make sure the class will understand what this drug is– (especially if you have a lesser known drug!)

Summarize MTF Trends [for your drug] What was the national data for teens? Risky? Approval? How many teens use it? How frequently do they use it? Who uses it more? (which sub-group—gender, academic standing, etc.)

Our Predictions Summarize your predictions—what did you predict in the first column of the packet? Why? Explain your viewpoint and preconceived ideas about the drug before beginning the project

Our survey questions Copy and paste your survey questions here Format it so it is easy to read Why did you choose these questions? What did you hope to learn?

Who we surveyed Describe the class/division you surveyed: Grade Gender How many What class/teacher

Comparing Von Steuben and National Data #1 Have at least 3 slides that directly compare Von Steuben data to the national data from Monitoring The Future Note: probably best to have overall data here—not broken up by gender You should be prepared to explain what each graph shows—not simply have the graphs projected! If you want to screenshot images from the MTF survey, use ‘Snipping Tool’ (on PCs) and copy/paste the ‘snipped’ image http://www.monitoringthefuture.org/pubs/monographs/mtf- overview2013.pdf http://www.monitoringthefuture.org/pubs/monographs/mtf- overview2013.pdf

Comparing Von Steuben and National Data #2 (Example) Von Steuben Data National Data

Comparing Von Steuben and National Data #3

Comparing a sub-group Have at least one slide that includes a comparison of one of the demographic sub-groups that MTF studied You should use a bar graph to compare 2 variables Be prepared to explain the relationship you found For example: Gender vs. perceptions of risk Gender vs. drug use College plans vs. approval College plans vs. drug use GPA vs. approval GPA vs. risk

Analysis Here you should have a slide (or two) that analyze the findings—what do all these charts and graphs mean? Even if you have given an overview with each chart, still include a slide that has the analysis typed out clearly Examples of analytical statements: Perceptions of risk were very SIMILAR at Von Steuben. 70% of our students marked ‘very risky,’ and an average of 72% of students nationally marked ‘great risk.’ We found that GPA was NOT a factor in determining drug use, since the trend we found in Chart ____ showed that _____.

Conclusion and Further Questions Were you surprised at your results? What do you still need want to learn about the drug or teen use? Were there any problems that affected your data? Do you think your results were a valid representation of Von Steuben student drug use? Why or why not? How would you expand on this project?
