2. © 2012 Autodesk Class Summary This hands-on lab, will provide you with the steps that a MEP Consultant will use to setup a project with Revit MEP. Starting with receiving an architectural model, cleaning it up, linking it into your project, using the Copy/Monitor tool, setting your Coordinates and creating views for your MEP project.

3. © 2012 Autodesk Learning Objectives At the end of this class, you will be able to:  Prepare an Autodesk® Revit® Architecture/Structure model for use in Autodesk Revit MEP software.  Use shared coordinates to correctly link your site coordinates with the architectural model  Use the Copy/Monitor tool to correctly set up and link the model, including setting up views for MEP  Export the model to Autodesk ® Navisworks Manage for Collaboration

4. © 2012 Autodesk Preparing the link models for use in Revit MEP  Detach from Central – Allows access to cleanup the model  Get to know the Model – Review Levels and Layout  Purge Unused – Reduces file size for linked models  Drafting View – Reduces file size  Compact File – Re-writes the file to smallest size possible

5. © 2012 Autodesk Linking to Acquire Shared Coordinates  Start with the Systems-Default.rte – Combined MEP Template for New Users  Delete Existing Levels – We want the Architect’s Levels  Link the Architectural Model – Use Auto- Origin to Origin for positioning  Pin the Model – Don’t want the model to move around  Acquire Shared Coordinates – Changes your coordinates to match the Arch.  Save your Project!!! – No explanation necessary

6. © 2012 Autodesk Linking to Acquire Shared Coordinates, Continued….  Link the Structural Model – Use Auto – By Shared Coordinates  Pin the Model – Don’t want the model to move around  Hide the Structural Model – Temporary step to make Copy/Monitor easier  Save your Project!!!

7. © 2012 Autodesk Perform Copy/Monitor  Start the Copy/Monitor process – Collaborate tab, use Select Link option  Choose Options – Lets you choose what to use when Copying  Start Copy – Allows us to select the Architectural Levels and Grids  Finish Copy – when completed we need to exit this mode  Unhide the Structural Model – Get the view back to its original state.  Save your Project!!!  COPY/MONITOR one model only. Usually the main one for Architecture!

8. © 2012 Autodesk Create Views for MEP  Create Floor Plans – Use your new Levels acquired from the Architect  Create Ceiling Plans – Change some settings to fix these plans  Use Visibility Graphics – Clean up the link files, one at a time  Finish Copy – when completed we need to exit this mode  Unhide the Structural Model – Get the view back to its original state.  Save your Project!!!  COPY/MONITOR one model only. Usually the main one for Architecture!

9. © 2012 Autodesk Create Engineering Spaces  Room Bounding – Let’s the Architectural link allow Room Bounding  Place Spaces Automatically – Automatic placement of Engineering Spaces  Use Space Naming Utility – Picks up Architectural Room Names  Delete Unwanted Spaces – Use a Schedule to delete unwanted Spaces  Save your Project!!!

10. © 2012 Autodesk Export your rvt file to a Navisworks Manage nwc file  3D View – export is WYSIWYG “What You See Is What You Get”  Visibility Graphics – Turn on and off what we want to Export  Navisworks Settings – Make some changes before the Export  Export NWC file – Export our file out to the Navisworks NWC format  Save your Project!!!
