2 Response to Intervention www.interventioncentral.org 2 What is the Purpose of the RTI Steering Group? The RTI Steering Group guides the overall RTI process. The group meets periodically (e.g., monthly) on an ongoing basis to evaluate the RTI project, shape its future direction, determine what resources the project requires, and allocate those resources. The Steering Group also ensures that a standard RTI process is followed across individual schools.

3 Response to Intervention www.interventioncentral.org 3 Who Should Serve on the RTI Steering Group? The Steering Group should be multi-disciplinary, with representation from: –Administration –Teachers –Support staff (e.g., school psychologist) Schools may also consider recruiting a parent memberfor the team.

4 Response to Intervention www.interventioncentral.org 4 Can the RTI Steering Group Be Combined With the Building Intervention Team (‘RTI Team’)? If the RTI model is being adopted at individual schools and is not yet a district initiative, buildings can combine the RTI Steering Group and Intervention Team into a single body. If the RTI model is being adopted across a school district, it is recommended that a district- level RTI Steering Group be set up to monitor RTI efforts across schools.
