Democracy, Discrimination & Public Trust by

Canadian Dental Association Code of Ethics: http://www.cda-adc.ca/en/cda/about_cda/code_of_ethics/index.asp “ Dentists shall not represent their education, qualifications or competence in any way that would be false or misleading.”

Health Canada “Health Canada endorses the fluoridation of drinking water to prevent tooth decay, but does not participate in the decision to fluoridate a water supply.” Health Canada response to Petition 221B to the Auditor General of Canada, Question #3 Available from: http://www.oag-bvg.gc.ca/internet/English/pet_221B_e_31256.html IF HEALTH CANADA DOES NOT PARTICIPATE... WHY ARE YOU HERE DR. COONEY?

Health Canada 2007 Findings and Recommendations Panel THIS IS NOT AN INDEPENDENT, UNBIASED PANEL All 6 Panel members are historically known to promote artificial water fluoridation. 3 are dentists with no expertise in toxicology. IRONICALLY 3 members of the panel have published recent peer-reviewed studies (Clark, Levy, Kumar) which show that: water fluoridation is not protecting teeth water fluoridation causes significant increases in dental fluorosis

Dr. Cooney, Dec 3, 2007, Thunder Bay City Council In response to an enquiry by Thunder Bay councillor as to why provinces like British Columbia seem uninterested in artificial water fluoridation: "In, for example, British Columbia you tend to have a lot of what we call tree-huggers or environmentalist folks. They tend to feel that they are not comfortable with fluoride in the water."

Misleading Statements from the Chief Dental Office of Canada. Hamilton BOH July 9, 2008 Presentation by 2 staff members from the Chief Dental Office of Canada “Some communities have enough natural fluoride to protect teeth from cavities” (Stratford, Ontario) Reality Check: Stratford exceeds Health Canada's MAC Safety Guidelines for natural fluoride concentrations (MAC = 1.5mg/L) - 2006 Stratford water results are 1.4-2.1mg/L Stratford Hospital advises parents of newborns not to use this municipal water.

Water fluoridation is the single largest source of fluorides & single largest cause of fluoride disease US Centers for Disease Control: “ Water and processed beverages (e.g., soft drinks and fruit juices) can provide approximately 75% of a person's fluoride intake” US Centers for Disease Control – Enamel Fluorosis http://www.cdc.gov/FLUORIDATION/safety/enamel_fluorosis.htm 2006 U.S. National Research Council Review: “The major dietary source of fluoride for most people in the United States is fluoridated municipal (community) drinking water, including water consumed directly, food and beverages prepared at home or in restaurants from municipal drinking water, and commercial beverages and processed foods originating from fluoridated municipalities.” NRC 2006 p. 24

Which Health Canada representative are we to believe??? Dr. Peter Cooney ??? "Fluorosis is not caused by Water Fluoridation" Dr. Peter Cooney Jan 13, 2004, Red Lake Minutes Health Canada Response Petition to the Auditor General of Canada “It is expected for dental fluorosis rates to drop if fluoridation is discontinued” Petition #221 B #12 ??? Dr. Michelle Giddings PhD??? Manager of the Water Quality and Science Division in the Water Quality and Health Bureau, Health Canada's Secretariat for the Federal/Provincial/Territorial committee on Drinking Water "Clearly the simplest way of reducing the prevalence of fluorosis in child populations is to cease to fluoridate community water supplies.“ Affidavit, Exhibit 15, pg. 151

Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Artificial water fluoridation is anti-democratic because it does not respect the rights and freedoms of individuals. Section 15: Equality Rights Any law or action which imposes burdens, obligations or disadvantages to minorities is discriminatory and undemocratic. Section 7: Life, liberty and security of person Any law which does not respect the rights and freedoms of individuals is discriminatory and undemocratic.

Past Errors: Leaded gasoline, Asbestos, Thalidomide, Vioxx... All once recommended as safe and effective.

Is this problem easy to solve? YES We wish that all legal, environmental and public health problems were so simple to solve. Just Turn Off The Acid Drip
