Asserts that we have a preferred perceiving and judging process. Proposes that we can develop the ability to use all of the processes positively and appropriately.

6/4/2016 MGT 500 St Josephs College Dr. Coty Keller 11 Key Elements of the Theory Each pattern is a self-balancing energy system. Each pattern is a dynamic system for adapting and responding. Each pattern develops specialization (dominant and auxiliary) and moves to the integration of mental processes.

6/4/2016 MGT 500 St Josephs College Dr. Coty Keller 12 Basic Assumptions All people have preferences All preferences are equally valuable

6/4/2016 MGT 500 St Josephs College Dr. Coty Keller 13 THE MBTI DOES INDICATE Preferred focus of attention (data gathering) Preferred way of interacting Predictable differences in individuals are caused by differences in the way people prefer to use their minds or mental processes Preferences for perceiving & making decisions

6/4/2016 MGT 500 St Josephs College Dr. Coty Keller 14 THE MBTI DOES NOT INDICATE SKILLS IQ ABILITIES APTITUDE

6/4/2016 MGT 500 St Josephs College Dr. Coty Keller 15 From the “Big Picture” to the “Detail” Two preferences for each dimension of type (E or I, S or N, T or F, J or P) The four dimensions of the type code are: Gaining energy through E xtraverting or I ntroverting. Gathering data ( or perceiving) through S ensing or I ntuiting. Deciding (or judging) with T hinking or F eeling. Managing external world by J udging or P erceiving (an orientation).
