1 Creating the Perfect High School Student Resume ’

2 Writing Styles ► make sure the spelling is correct. get at least two people to check and read your resume. ► don't use the word 'i'. ► start every sentence with a verb or action word. ► print to good quality plain white paper only. (when turning in to an employer or college admissions) ► keep sentences short or use phrases. ► use past tense.

3 Length ► try to keep your resume 1 full page in length and keep additional details and descriptions to 1 or 2 sentences. ► try to use a maximum of 6 bullet points together, each bullet not more than one sentence or phrase.

4 What Not to Include in Resume’ ► don't include any negatives or anything critical. ► don't include poor grades, or unfortunate work experiences. ► don't include references unless specifically requested - they can be requested upon interview. ► don't include humor.

5 Formatting ► only use bold and italics sparingly for emphasis and easy navigation. for example, on section and sub headings. ► do not use underlining. ► do not use all caps. ► do not use graphics or images in your resume.

6 Reverse Chronological Order ► keep to a reverse chronological format (dates in order of most recent first). ► functional style resumes can sometimes be viewed as attempting to hide information (by level of interest).

7 Work/Volunteer History ► concentrate mostly on achievements, not just responsibilities. show what you have achieved during your work there. ► don't re-write your current job description. ► don't include reasons for leaving. ► only include recent jobs. ► include any voluntary or work placement activities. ► when listing your various jobs, include details which illustrate exactly how they have given you the skills which will be useful. ► don't belittle or undervalue your experience. it is up to you to demonstrate how and why they have given you useful skills.

8 Education ► don't include poor grades. ► show G.P.A. if average or above. (“C” or higher) ► include honors if awarded. ► Special electives

9 Other Skills ► you can include:  languages  computing skills  published works ► membership clubs or sport teams or other ECA’s ► make sure you list any other skills ► when listing languages make sure you include your level such as fluent, intermediate, or basic. show if you read, write, or speak. ► for computing skills make sure you mention the packages you have used such as Microsoft Word or other softwares.

10 Assignment ► Bring gathering YOUR information to build your personal resume’ ► Research resume’ examples online; ► Remember, this is a professional personal resume’
