July 2013 Exams Officers Network Meeting – Part 2

A course where neither QWS QAN/Discount Code nor Exam Awards have been linked 2

To show the full power of the new link between non EDI Results Entry, Course Management and School Census, we will link to a Course that has no other link to Exams Organiser 3

The Problem Solving course has no links to Exam Awards 8

.. Nor any links via a QWS QAN/Discount Code. 9

The Problem Solving course has two members where Exam Result and the associated AO QAN/Discount Codes could be picked up from non EDI Results Entry 10

Using non EDI Results Entry to enter results for the members of the Course 11

Non EDI Results Entry is available from Focus | Examinations | Focus | PI Values | Edit PI Data 12

We can enter one grade at a time for a particular exam, but as most exams where manual entries are necessary only have on pass grade, this is still a relatively fast process. 16

The list can be sorted by the chosen column and then it is a process of Click, Shift Click and Ctrl Click to identify the students for the grade 17

18

Here we only have two students to identify, but the procedure would be the same if it was dozens of students. 19

In many cases, once QAN has been entered and Refresh clicked, the software can automatically fill in all items up to the Grade 20

21

In this case it has been possible to fill in the Subject Code automatically, as there is only one Subject Code (Discount Code) available for this QAN. However, there are cases, such as art, where several Subject Codes are available for the QAN and where this is the cases the drop down can be used to select the appropriate Subject Code from those that are allowed for that QAN 22

If the Problem Solving course had been given the appropriate QWS QAN/Discount Code classification, the software would have provided the Course automatically, but as we saw early this classification does not exist, so we have to click the drop down to select the appropriate course. 23

24

25

The next stage is to enter the Grade and this is done via a drop down, where the choice of Grades is restricted to those relevant for this exam. 26

27

The Equivalences, Thresholds, and Points will be filled in automatically 28

We click Save to make this result information available to PI, Course Management and School Census Autumn 29

A Grade Integrity Check button has been added to help schools to save time when they have to changed the Results in a marksheet after a remark. Clicking the Grade Integrity Check button will ensure that the revised grade is reflected in the Equivalences, Thresholds, and Points for that result. Previously the school would have had to run Collate to ensure that the revised result is taken into account and this removes any manual changes to the Discounted flag in the PI records. 31

Although the main reason for updating the PI functionality was to improve manual entry of exam results and the links to courses, this update has also delivered major improvements to the reliability of PI in general. For example, we have previously had to provide a patch for BTEC, as the basedata is not suitable for derivation of a point score, but this patch will no longer needed, as this point score information is provided by the new Performance file. 32
