Who are specialized faculty?  A range of nearly 40 titles of non-tenure system employees who are categorized as “Other Academics” by University Statutes, Art IX, Section 3c;  E.g., lecturers, instructors, modified professorial titles (research, clinical), visiting professors  33.67% of IUs taught by specialized faculty in 2012- 2013 (compared to 45.95% of IUs taught by tenure system faculty)

Specialized Faculty Titles & Use  Three main categories: teaching focused research focused clinical focused  Use of “adjunct” and “visiting” modifiers Adjunct modifier for less than 50 % FTE Visiting modifier reserved for Visiting Professors, time limited appointments of individuals more broadly engaged in all three missions
