3 Additional Properties of Proportions  Reciprocal Property – If 2 ratios are equal, then their reciprocals are also equal. 10 = 20  2 = 4 2 4 10 20

5 Additional Properties of Proportions  In a proportion, if you add the value of each ratio’s denominator to its numerator, then you form another true proportion. 10 = 20  (10 + 2) = (20 + 4)  2 4 2 4

6 Scale Factors  A scale drawing is a drawing that is the same shape as the object it represents. The scale drawings are usually given for models of real-life objects.  The scale factor is a ratio that describes how the dimensions in the drawing related to the actual dimensions of the object.

13 Solve Cross products Divide each side by 0.25. The distance across the city is 30 miles. Plan Create a proportion relating the measurements to the scale to find the distance in miles. Then use the formula to find the time. Example 3:

14 Divide each side by 10. Answer: 3 hours It would take Tashawna 3 hours to bike across town. Examine To determine whether the answer is reasonable, reexamine the scale.
