2 At a glance… Formed by legislation in 2001 23 voting members –5 from each member county (Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester) –3 municipal representatives (one from each member county) –5 members of the General Assembly

3 6 Standing Committees – Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) – GIS (Geographic Information Systems) – Regional Healthcare – Telecommunications – Water & Sewer – Infrastructure

4 Added two divisions on July 1, 2004 –Somerset Commuter, Wicomico Transit and Worcester County Ride were combined to become Shore Transit. –The Lower Shore Private Industry Council became the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance.

5 Goals  TCC to be designated an Economic Development District by EDA  Appropriate infrastructure to support growth of business and attract new businesses and industries  Sustain and diversify the economy  Maintain and improve the region’s quality of life

6 Aided in the establishment of the Maryland Broadband Cooperative as a low cost high speed internet backbone

7 Shore Transit By the Numbers… 11 Routes117 Employees 50 Buses24 Other Vehicles 579,161 Passengers in FY07 Goals  Consolidation of services in order to eliminate redundancy in the region  Access to transportation for all citizens to work, health or educational opportunities

8 The Lower Shore Workforce Alliance provides job training opportunities, through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), to eligible residents of Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties. Goals  Growing the internship program  Evaluate needed skill sets for region to determine compatible training programs Lower Shore Workforce Alliance

9 Providing services to:  Schools  Detention Centers  Social Services Offices  Courts

10 Partnerships Formed Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative (ESRGC) through a partnership with Salisbury University and the Mid-Shore Regional Council Mid-Atlantic Institute for Space and Technology (MIST) members include UMES, SU, UM-College Park, Old Dominion University, TEDCO, DBED and private sector companies

11  Provides customers employment and training services;  Offers assistance to help customers overcome various barriers;  Offers easy access to resources and information; and  Consists of 10 agencies that offer a tremendous variety of services.
