Leaders Pleasing to God Numbers 13-14 Some thoughts from Neal Pollard

Destructive Leadership Traits Numbers 13:1-3, 27-29 They see the good and the bad, but focus on the bad. Numbers 13:31-32 They carefully avoided going beyond what they knew they could do. They led Israel astray and cost a generation their lives.

Urgency Numbers 13:30a “Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, ‘Let us go up at once...” John 9:4 Carpe diem–seize the day. God’s leaders see the urgency of the mission. Ephesians 5:15-17

Activity Numbers 13:30b “...and take possession,...” James 1:22 Talking while the building burns costs lives.

Confidence Numbers 13:30c “...for we are well able to overcome it.” Confidence is contagious. Philippians 1:12-14 Hebrews 10:39 Romans 8:37 “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

Concern Numbers 14:6 Acts 20:31 “Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13

Communication Numbers 14:7a “and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel,...” Matthew 13:51 Genesis 11:7 Destroy understanding = destroy unity

Positivity Numbers 147b “...saying, ‘The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land.’” Good leaders focus on the potential, not the problem (No talk of giants or of being like grasshoppers). 1 Corinthians 16:8-9 “But I will tarry in Ephesus until Pentecost. For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.” 2 Timothy 1:12

Dependancy Numbers 14:8 Psalm 84:11 “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.” 1 John 4:4

Courage Numbers 14:9 Acts 4:13 “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.” Psalm 118:6 “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

A Different Spirit Numbers 14:24a “But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him...” Romans 9:1-3 Acts 26:24-25, 29

Obedience Numbers 14:24b “...and has followed Me fully,...” Acts 26:19-21 Psalm 119:1-2

Reward Numbers 14:24c “...I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.” Hebrews 13:7 “Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8
