3 TOPICS The reading of intermediate Latin prose via our textbook Cambridge Latin Course: Unit II and Unit III and various supplemental handouts. Reading passages in Latin for comprehension, meaning, and interpretation Grammar: review old and new Daily life and customs in ancient Rome, e.g., religion, public entertainment, science, technology, medicine, military customs, Masada, Rome in the Imperial period, etc. English etymology and Greek/Latin word roots and word histories Famous Latin phrases, abbreviations, and mottoes Modern connections via, word derivatives, figures of speeches, etc.

5 ART AND CULTURAL PROJECTS Ancient Greek and Roman medicine Desktop catapults Rome and her monuments Roman/Greek architecture Word derivatives and etymology Medusa Mythology exam projects: “Hercules:”

6 NATIONAL EXAMS Medusa Mythology Exam (March-April) - Medusa Mythology Exam (November-December) - “Hercules: the First Avenger.” All questions will include the life and adventures of Hercules. Classical National Etymology Exam (December) National Latin Exam (March) Connecticut Latin Exam (April) Why? To reward hard working/intelligent students To see how our students do nationally To reward student by letting them potentially drop the final exam for medal winners and quizzes for certificate winners

7 ASSESSMENT QUIZZES 80% - 8-10 per quarter, including projects HOMEWORK 20% - 20+ assignments per quarter: translation, reading comprehension, handouts, mini “quizzes,” etc. - Online support via crabbylatin.com
