ABC C-notes Solving the crime and finding your evidence

Why? To be able to answer questions and provide evidence for your claim To use a formula to help make your answer concise To perform better in English class and on the TAKS test

Let’s try one! Shel Silverstein’s “Prayer of a Selfish Child” Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, And if I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my toys to break. So none of the other kids can use ‘em… Amen.

Do you think the child is selfish? (C-notes) A nswer: B ecause: C itation: For example “___________.” This shows that “________________.” Etc.

How did you do? (C-notes) Yes, I think the child is selfish because he doesn’t want to share his toys even after he is dead. For example, he prays, “I pray the Lord my toys to break, so none of the other kids can use ‘em.”

When should you use TAPP? And when should you use TAPAP? If the two stories have an answer that agrees then use TAPP If the two stories answers do not agree then use TAPAP.

What does a TAPP answer look like? Why do Monica and Mary love music so much? Monica and Mary love music so much because they love the way it makes them feel. For example, Monica believes that she “can forget about all her problems” when she listens to music. Also, for example, Mary says that she “loves dancing to a good beat and not thinking about anything.”

Read these 2 remarks about The Family Guy When my parents first saw The Simpsons and The Family Guy, they said instantly: "This is crap. I can draw better than that." That should be the obvious conclusion. If you're a kid wanting to be a cartoonist today, and you're looking at Family Guy, you don't have to aim very high. You can draw Family Guy when you're ten years old. You don't have to get any better than that to become a professional cartoonist. The standards are extremely low.

Try TAPP with a partner… Do the author’s of these two remarks think very highly of the drawing capabilities on The Family Guy?

ANSWER No, the authors of these remarks do not think highly of the drawing in The Family Guy. For example, the first guy’s parents said it “is crap. I can draw better than that.” Also, for example, the second guy said, “You can draw Family Guy when you’re 10 years old. The standards are extremely low.”

Read these 2 remarks about Scary Movie (both written by women) I watched this movie in it’s entirety and was not very pleased. Many scenes had used toilet humor or were so overt at trying to be funny that they ended causing the audience to shake their heads in disbelief of the stupidity of the overall scene. Right up front I should say I’ve never seen the first three Scary Movies, I probably should. I just went out to see this with a friend cause it’s Friday night. With that out of the way, I can say this movie was definitely enjoyable. It’s not a down right riot, it’s not totally pathetic, it’s right in between.

Try TAPAP together… Did these women like Scary Movie?

Answer: The first woman did not like Scary Movie. For example, the first woman said, “I…was not very pleased.” However, the second woman did like Scary Movie. For example, the second woman said, “I can definitely say this movie was enjoyable.”
