2 Purpose of presentation  Explain the procedure involved in Angola LFS to collected data on:  Employment in the informal sector  Informal employment.  Measurement of women´s work

3 What is the Angola LFS  It is a household survey.  It is the first LFS at national level in Angola  It is a survey included in the Program activities of Angolan Government for the year 2009

4 Goals Obtain official statistical data every 6 months for policy decision-making; Monitoring of the Millenuim Development Goals Strategic programming key information includes:  Labour Force characteristics in Angola;  Socio-demographics characteristics;  Households Socio-economics conditions

5 Coverage Geographic coverage: National level Sampling:  Representative at the, provincial urban and rural areas  Sample size:11.000 households  Provisional timeframe for data collection: February-March 2009

6 Questionnaire  Includes 4 Modules: –A. Geographic Information –B. Sócio – Demographics Characteristics –C. Education and Professional Training –D. Employment

7 Field Work Field team composition: –1 Field Supervisor –1 Cartographer –1 Questionnaire Reviewer –7 Enumerators –1 Driver

8 Field Work Field team composition:  One team will cover 1 province with exception to Luanda where 5 team will operate.

9 Data Processing and Analysis  Data entry throug: Scanning EYES & HANDS Application  Data analysis by: SPSS

10 Data Processing (DP)  DP team composition: –2 Supervisors –4 Scan operators –10 Reviwerr/keyers –2 Filing/Archiving assistants

11 One Expert during a week From June 27th to July 4th – Expert: Martha Mayer –UNSD Project: Improving Gender Statistics on Employment  Objective: To provide direct techinical assistance to the NSO of Angola (INE) –Statistics on women´s and men´s participation in the informal sector and informal employment; –Revision of the questionnaire and draft of additional questions; –Revision of the tables for dessimination: gender and informal; employment and informal sector issues.

12 15 th ICLS: Informal sector concept  Informal sector: units engaged in production of goods or services.  Primary objectives: generation of employment and incomes for persons concerned.  Characteristics: low level of organisation; little or no division between labour and capital as factors of productions; small scale; labour relations (if any) based on casual employment, kinship, or personal/social relations rather than contracts with formal guarantees

18 15th ICLS: Definition of employment in the informal sector  All jobs in informal sector enterprises, or all persons who, during a given reference period, were employed in at least one informal sector enterprise, irrespective of their status in employment and whether it was their main or a secondary job.
