2. Amendment XII 12 History Introduced to Congress on December 9 th,1803, and ratified by the states one year later on June 15 th. Problems were found in the 1796 and 1800 elections. The President would be the candidate with the most number of votes and the VP would be the runner up. This caused issues if both came from different parties. The President must run with someone from the same political party. Then came the 12 th Amendment, creating the Electoral College.

3. Amendment XVII 17 History It was brought up in 1828, 1829 and 1855, but wasn’t brought to Congress until the 1890’s. State Government was being corrupted, and the vote needed to be more democratic. The 17 th Amendment replaced Article I, Section 3, Clause I. The Senate shall be composed of two senators from each state serving a 6 year term.

4. Amendment XX 20 History Brought to Congress in 1935 and was passed in 1937. With the advancement of technology, less time was needed for the President to get to his/her Inauguration after finding out the results of the election. Shorten time between the President and Vice President’s election and Inauguration.

5. Amendment XXII 22 History Congress passed the 22 nd Amendment on March 21, 1947. Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected 4 times, but died during his 4 th term. Presidents can only be in office for two, four year terms.

6. Amendment XXV 25 History Congress passed this Amendment on February 10 th, 1967. Some Presidents have been assassinated or have died while in office, to stop a whole reelection the 25 th Amendment was created. If the President dies, the VP takes over as President.

7. How these Amendments are Related… The 12 th, 17 th,20 th, 22 nd and 25 th Amendments were created to save the government time, stress and money when expected and unexpected changes with the President, Senate and Congress occurred. These Amendments put a boundary on Politicians so they can’t abuse their power.
