4. Physical Water Scarcity Physical water scarcity is where there is physically not enough water to meet all demands, including that needed for ecosystems to function effectively.

5. Economic Water Scarcity Economic water scarcity is a type of water scarcity caused by a lack of money being spent/money available to spend on obtaining water. The water may be there, but the money or tools to access it is not. It may also have to do with insufficient infrastructure to keep up with the demand for water resulting in people often having to fetch water from rivers or lakes for domestic and agricultural uses.

20. In Fact… The average distance that women in developing countries walk to collect water per day is four miles and the average weight that women carry is 44 pounds.

21. In Fact… An American taking a five- minute shower uses more water than a typical person in a developing country slum uses in a whole day.
